| Best of The Drill: Oiler Shooting | ||||
Chris & Donovan
|
An assistant with the Seattle Storm and Lakeside, Chris Bown has made his mark with individual player development. His fifth column on drills is about the Oiler shooting drill, the second of four parts on drills from Charlie Sands of L.A. | |||
|
Basic Four Shooting Requirements: Five to 12 players and two balls. Once Player 2 makes her pass to Player 1 she sprints to the baseline and plants her left foot on the baseline and sprints toward the top of the key to receive a pass from Player 3. The drill continues in this fashion until everyone gets a shot. Everyone stays in the same line but completes a series of four shots:
*We try and catch using a two-foot stop. This allows the player to pivot on both feet. In addition, we use a reverse pivot as well as the front pivot to give the player more options. The series would progress with a reverse-and-go move off of both feet for the shot or the drive. Note: This is the second of four parts on drills that were given to me and a few other coaches by Charlie Sands, the head basketball coach at West Los Angeles College. Last week's were the Basic Four shooting drill.
